Baby it’s cold outside

This 1st birthday party will leave you feeling warm, toasty, yearning for hot cocoa, and reaching to finally open that felt grey favours you thought were plain ornaments.

It doesn’t get merrier than the cheerful quoted table names (where instead of the usual number we went for a different inspirational word on each table). After all the upcoming Christmas period is all about love, joy, celebration, bliss. And that make this season “the most wonderful time of the year”.

For the kids area you could feel the cool woodsy air that encompasses all those wonderful feelings of nostalgia and holiday magic. It was inspired by a stylish vintage canteen from where delicious handmade pies, milk and cookies were being served. There’s even a yummy selection of aromatic Christmas tea and an unexpected “special guest” book that everyone stopped by to check out and write their wishes for Ionas, the young birthday boy!

Party Highlights:

  • “…IONAS” hand lettered calligraphy backdrop for the dessert table
  • darling white reindeer sugar cookies and gourmet mini donuts
  • black and white craft argyle used as charger plates
  • Clear bottles with ilex in different sizes centrepieces
  • fun activities for the kids, including a kit with different musical instruments for each child according to their age
  • lush greenery garlands on the treat stations + mini versions wrapped around the utensils

We wanted the party details to remind the rustic feel of an outdoor camping, so we sourced rustic props, such as wooden crates, benches and furs. We accented the camper with a sumptuous greenery garland and displayed a wooden rectangular table and a hand lettered sign as a backdrop. This pattern was incorporated into the kids dining table among other little details.

We set the dining table with natural wood plates, theme tagged glasses and hand lettered felt baskets. The kids centerpiece was a wooden Christmas tree and the idea was to be decorated afterwards with the plexi glass ornaments that the kids were receiving as a welcome gift. The dessert table was styled with a mixture of wooden cake stands, engraved Christmas trees and reindeers.

We kicked off the playdate by gathering around a colourful play hot air balloon,, followed by relay race and other camping games. By then, the kids had worked up their appetite and got to choose from an array of sweet treats including reindeer cookies, gourmet donuts, s’mores favors and milk!

“Baby it’s cold outside…This evening has been so very nice” The quote by Idina Menzel summed up our feelings once the party was said and done. We couldn’t help but step back to reflect on what a fun morning it was, to experience the joy of the Christmas season through the eyes of small children.
