Destination Wedding in Andros

This is a story of an international love celebration that was crowned with a destination wedding in Andros.

A stunning bride from Nicaragua met her Greek soul mate in New York. They dated for four years before he proposed and both felt right to get wed in Andros island, in Greece, where the groom’s parents spend their summers and where his father was born.

We were looking for a venue by the beach, with a church nearby and the choice of Agios Kyprianos proved to be the best one. Church right next to the big blue sea and dinner area right underneath a lovely vineyard. Before the ceremony guests got to enjoy fresh lemonade and local sweets like pasteli and of course they helped themselves with some original fans brought all the way from the bride’s country of origin.

Programs explaining the order of an orthodox ceremony were beautifully designed by Atelier Invitations as was the whole wedding’s stationery. For our venue’s decoration and colors we went with soft blue, yellow and orange and for our flower concept, we used calla lilies, the bride’s favorite flower, orchids, greenery from vines and of course grapes that were in abundance at this beachside venue. Α live band played Greek songs and a DJ made sure the bride’s Spanish heritage was also represented and people got to dance till early morning hours.

Words from the bride

We met at work about six or seven years ago, and have been together now for about 5 years. We love traveling and the outdoors, and are both very outgoing and fun loving. My parents are from Nicaragua and George’s family is from Greece. Both of us always envisioned getting married somewhere abroad, and pretty early on in our engagement, we decided to have the wedding in Greece. And, in particular, in Andros, where George’s father was born and where his parents spend their summers.

I had been to Andros several times (to visit his family) and thought it was perfect. It was very important to us that our wedding be fun and memorable for our friends and family who were, in most cases, traveling great distances to be there on our special day. I also wanted our venue to be close to the sea and wanted to incorporate as many local flowers and local traditions as we could in our decorations and ceremony, while still embracing my own Spanish heritage.

In short, we wanted our wedding to be unique, but also unforgettable. The result exceeded our expectations and was not only beautiful but a magical day that we will never forget.
