A Celebration Full of Taste and Fun
Set at Pyrgos Petreza, surrounded by vineyards, gardens, and the natural beauty of the Athenian countryside, Laura and Michael’s wedding was a celebration full of taste, warmth, and fun. It was the kind of day that felt effortlessly stylish from the outside, yet deeply personal at its core.
From the beginning, they were drawn to the idea of a wedding that would balance elegance with ease. They wanted intimacy, beautiful design, exceptional food and music, and an atmosphere that felt more like one unforgettable gathering than a formal event. Every choice reflected that intention, creating a celebration that was refined, joyful, and completely their own.
As their wedding planners in Greece, our role was to bring that vision into focus and shape it into a wedding experience that felt seamless, expressive, and beautifully aligned with both the couple and the venue.
The Setting at Pyrgos Petreza
Pyrgos Petreza was the perfect setting for the kind of wedding Laura and Michael had in mind. With its rustic character, vineyards, gardens, and countryside atmosphere just outside Athens, it offered exactly the balance they were drawn to. They loved the idea of creating intimacy while introducing modern elements into a more natural setting. That contrast became one of the most defining parts of the celebration.
What makes Pyrgos Petreza so special is the way it combines a strong sense of place with the flexibility to shape a wedding that feels personal and polished. For Laura and Michael, that balance mattered. They wanted the beauty of the countryside, but interpreted through a lens that felt clean, stylish, and considered. That is exactly what this venue allowed.
How Their Story Began
Laura and Michael’s story began on The Yacht Week in Croatia almost ten years ago. Laura was travelling around Europe for the first time, while Michael had just moved back from Melbourne. His yacht had issues with its electricity, which meant that all their food and drinks had gone warm, so the group set off in search of better supplies and ended up climbing aboard Laura’s yacht. As they said themselves, because they were all Greek, the spread of food and drinks was naturally superior to every other boat. It was a chance encounter, unexpected and completely unlike the way most people meet today.
They kept in touch through travel and met again later in Europe before Laura moved to London for an internship and then spent time in Ireland. Their relationship grew between cities, countries, and different stages of life, and eventually London became home for both their story and their future. What began through travel stayed rooted in curiosity, movement, and a shared love of experience.
Their Connection to Greece
For Laura and Michael, Greece was never just a destination. Laura has Greek heritage, with family roots in Crete and Kefalonia, and they have both spent a lot of time in the country. What they especially love about Athens is its mix of urban life and natural beauty. They mentioned Pangrati as their favourite area, drawn to its restaurants and bars, and also shared their love for the Botanical Gardens. That combination of city energy, greenery, good food, and Greek identity made Athens feel like the right place for a wedding that would feel both stylish and meaningful.
Their love for Greece is also tied to the way they live and host. They cook, entertain, travel, and gather people together often. They even host a big Greek Easter every year. So in many ways, a wedding in Greece felt like a natural extension of the life they had already built together.
The Visual Direction of the Day
From the beginning, Laura and Michael’s aesthetic direction was clear even when some of the details were still evolving. They were drawn to a palette of green, white, and vanilla, while remaining open to introducing selective colour through details such as fruits and vegetables. They described their ideal style as low key and elegant, with the cocktail hour in particular feeling like a springtime garden party.
That is a very particular kind of luxury. It is not loud or overly decorative. It is confident, natural, and quietly refined. Even the brands they referenced reflect that sensibility. Michael’s love for Wax London, Percival, Arket, COS, and Liberty London points to a preference for classic design, clean lines, and pieces that feel expensive without trying too hard.
Our role was to translate that sensibility into a wedding that felt soft, elegant, social, and visually cohesive from beginning to end.
Floral Details and Scented Touches
Their floral preferences gave the design an especially personal character. Laura and Michael were drawn to flowers such as ranunculus, hydrangea, calla lily, lilac, chamomile, amaranthus, baby’s breath, and scabiosa, while wanting to avoid anything that felt too rustic, as well as lilies and standard roses. Peonies, however, were the exception.
They also shared something particularly beautiful: their love for jasmine and the wish for its scent to be present at the wedding because it reminded Laura of her grandmother. That kind of detail always matters. It is what transforms styling from something simply pretty into something emotionally resonant.
This gave us a beautiful foundation for a floral direction that could feel airy, elegant, and seasonally expressive. White and green offered the right base for the understated palette they loved, while texture, scent, and subtle garden inspired details could bring warmth and personality into the setting. Their interest in fruits and vegetables also suggested a Mediterranean softness that could add freshness without making the styling feel overly rustic.
The Atmosphere They Wanted to Create
One of the strongest things Laura and Michael shared was what mattered most to them: food, music, and party energy. They wanted both food and music to be exceptional and to stand out as defining parts of the wedding. In their own words, the kefi was the most important element. They imagined dinner feeling like one long, boozy dinner party, followed by dancing and an after party that felt like a real dance party rather than a formal transition.
That vision continued throughout the day. They wanted a fun entrance as bride and groom, an energetic first dance that would quickly bring everyone onto the dance floor, some Greek music and dancing, ideally with live instruments, and late night snacks. They also preferred tiramisu or a gelato cart with espresso martinis over a traditional wedding cake, which says so much about the spirit of the celebration they were creating. It was a wedding built around pleasure, atmosphere, and shared enjoyment.
Personal Elements Throughout the Celebration
Although the ceremony was symbolic, Laura and Michael still wanted it to feel meaningful and personal. Laura wanted both of her parents to walk her down the aisle, they were considering the symbolic use of stefana, and they planned to include a few readings by friends. These elements gave the ceremony emotional depth while keeping it personal and relaxed in tone.
They were also thoughtful about the guest experience throughout the day. They wanted lawn games during cocktail hour and were considering a first look so they could spend as much of cocktail hour as possible actually enjoying it with their guests. That instinct says a lot about them. They wanted the day to feel lived in, not staged from a distance.
How We Shaped the Experience
Behind the ease of a wedding like this is always a great deal of planning, curation, and coordination. Our role was to understand Laura and Michael’s personality, style, and priorities, and then shape an experience that felt true to them on every level.
As their wedding planners in Greece, our work included helping define the overall aesthetic direction, guiding the atmosphere of the day, supporting the flow of events, and ensuring that the wedding felt aligned with both the venue and the couple’s story. The goal was never simply to make the wedding look beautiful. It was to make it feel coherent, effortless, and full of intention.
What Makes Pyrgos Petreza So Special
Planning Laura and Michael’s wedding is a wonderful reminder of why Pyrgos Petreza is such a special wedding venue in Athens. It offers vineyards, gardens, natural beauty, and a warm rustic atmosphere, while still allowing space for a wedding to feel elegant, fresh, and highly personal.
For a couple like Laura and Michael, that made it an ideal match. Their celebration was never about spectacle alone. It was about style, intimacy, energy, and creating a setting where people could eat, dance, connect, and remember the feeling of the day long after it ended.
Looking Back on Laura and Michael’s Wedding
Laura and Michael’s wedding at Pyrgos Petreza was a celebration full of taste and fun in the very best sense. It was elegant without being stiff, stylish without being overworked, and joyful without ever losing its sense of refinement. From the rustic beauty of the venue to the music, food, fragrance, and atmosphere they imagined, every part of the day reflected the life they love sharing together.
For us, it was a joy to help shape that vision into a wedding that felt personal, expressive, and beautifully complete. Their celebration is a reminder that the most memorable weddings are often the ones that feel the most natural: full of life, full of meaning, and designed around the things that matter most.
